International Association of Athletics Directors & Coaches
I had the pleasure of attending this conference twice while I was working in Korea as an Athletics Director. I have a Masters of Education in Management and Leadership and have worked within athletics for over 10 years. I presented on two topics, Leadership V Management within Athletics and Coach Education.
Leadership v Management is applicable to all contexts within leadership in schools. The presentation inspires people to move towards transformational leadership understanding the need to ensure smooth systems by organized management. I very much enjoyed presenting this to a variety of Athletics Director from around the world. My large takeaway was the need to inspire our leaders to work with coaches and athletes to create inclusive goals and visions within their departments and continue to motivate the necessary stakeholders to achieve these.
Coach Education is applicate to feedback, mentor and appraisal systems within Athletics Departments and Schools. During my Masters I became intrigued by the differences of the systems, the benefits and the array of failing systems present in our schools. I presented on my own personal drive to receive feedback after all events, seasons and from all stakeholders. Despite, moving away from Athletics at this time, I still send out feedback forms from all stakeholders effected by my job. This continues personal and professional growth. Additionally, the presentation focused on mentoring and appraisals and the how and when these are appropriate within a school. My large takeaway from this was the personal interest that many Athletics Directors in attendance had about personal and professional growth through seeking and receiving feedback.
