Mindset

Lesson 1: General Introduction: Online Discussion Forum 

Students spend 35mins watching or listening to as many video's or podcasts.
Students are to take notes on the mindset introduction form. 
Students are to highlight their three major takeaways from any section of the mindset introduction form. 
Discussion Ideas
  • Pose the question on google classroom and enable all students to see all responses. Students ask questions on 4 peers responses, then answer. 
  • Use butchers paper and coloured post its. Students then use markers to pose extension questions. 
  • Verbal group discussions, move a person every few minutes to paraphrase previous groups content.

Lesson 2: Growth Mindset & Praise: 3C Post It Feedback 

Students arrive with a writing device and post its. 
Students read the printed selected articles. 
  • possible flip classroom - have students pre print an article of their interests. 
Students summarize their major take aways into the 3C's. Conceptual (I understand ...), Competency (I am able to ...), Character (I value ...)
Summary points are written on Post It's and placed on the appropriate butchers paper.

Lesson 3: Finding out your Mindset

Lesson 4: Introduction to Formative Assessment

Aim of this class is for students to identify an area of their life that could benefit from a growth mindset. 

Students create a goal and strategize, through research, a way to achieve this. 

Students are encouraged to research beyond their current understandings. 

The provided websites are to aid students in the development of growth.

Students implement the strategy for two week. They analyse and evaluate the effectiveness of the strategy post implementation.

Lesson 5

The aim of this lesson is to model the assessment criteria. Students work in their groups on creating a mindset shift for me. The strategy is based on their feedback provided for me.

Students follow the slide show by completing tasks, passing to new groups and providing feedback. 

The activity helps students to define and understand command terms. Before completing the task themselves.

Khan Academy - a lesson by lesson online program, that is free and interactive. Monitor you students progress. I don't use this program for this unit however, it is relevant. Our school uses this with our grade 7 advisory program.
