The Mask You Live In addressing the growing culture of raising our boys to limit their emotions. The documentary addresses the impact of raising our boys to "man up" , too not show emotion and the projection of the hyper masculine male.
The Mask You Live In is a documentary from the Miss Representation Project. They have a youtube channel (here) that is well worth taking a look at. What I enjoyed particularly about this documentary is that it addresses our ability to change and how this is possible. |
Miss Representation is the initial documentary for this organization. Although, it is 5 years old this documentary looks at society miss respresentation of women in the work place, media and how we raise them.
Many of the experts interviewed in this documentary also appear in the Mast You Live In however, look at the issue of gender inequality and stere0typing from a female perspective. A must watch for parents of both girls and boys. |

FED UP
Fed up is a documentary looking at the misleading marketing surrounding processed foods and school cafeteria lunches. There are many nutritional messages in this documentary however, the most powerful for me and my students is the marketing and misleading information around some of the popular "healthy" snacks we consume. This makes for a very informed discussion on what we consume and the decisions we make. |
Embrace
This one is for Mum and Dad. Taryn Brumfitt is an Australian mother leading a movement to change the way women see their bodies. This powerful documentary is hard to find as it has just been released however for screenings in your area and information on her movement check out her website - here! Her inspiration for the campaign was her realisation that she wanted to raise her daughter to love her body and who she was and her inability to see how she could do this if she herself did not love her body. A powerful journey for her and her body image movement. |
